A Message from our President
Many of us have experienced one of the hottest summers on record. With record temperatures settling across the country, it is difficult for us to think about layering up for our favorite winter past-time. However, Ski Season is just a few months away. In just a few months, we will converge on Breckenridge for AMCC 2008 from January 12-19, 2008. Many of our Regions are having skiing activities as well. The Western Region will be hosting Winter Carnival at Heavenly Ski Resort, South Lake Tahoe on February 7 – 10, 2008. The Midwest Region will be hosting their Winterfest at Taos, New Mexico from February 27 – March 2, 2008, and the Eastern Region will be hosting their Winterfest in Mont Sainte Anne, Quebec from February 28 – March 2, 2008.
We are approaching a milestone for the NBS. 2008 is a historical year as it is our 35th Anniversary. Our first gathering was held in 2003 when 13 ski clubs converged on Aspen, Colorado. We soon learned that there was a much greater interest and desire to get involved in recreational skiing. Our vision expanded further as we began to grow and there became an increasing number of black youth giving birth to a passion for the sport. The most compelling attribute of the NBS is the camaraderie; a true feeling of family. When you participate in any event of an NBS Club, an NBS Region or our Annual National events, we believe you will experience an element of camaraderie far surpassing the experience of skiing alone.
I am continually grateful to be a part of an organization that consists of people who have volunteered their time over the past 35 years to make this organization become what it is today. I’ll see you in Breckenridge where we will celebrate “Our Proud Past and Our Promising Future”!
Sincerely,
Rose Thomas Pickrum, President National Brotherhood of Skiers |
