TURIN, Italy, Feb. 27 — A month after Ralph Green was gunned down on a Brooklyn street corner in 1992, his mother mustered the strength to look ahead.

Until he was shot, Green had escaped the violence that plagued his Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood. He was 15 and a promising high school quarterback. After the shooting, his left leg had to be amputated and he was in a coma.

Touching a void: Faltering snowsports industry seeks to expand clientele among minorities

CAMBRIDGE -- Nishea Clark should be just the kind of enthusiast the ski industry would like to cater to.

She lives on Manhattan's Upper West Side and owns her own marketing firm. She has a six-figure income. An avid golfer and tennis player, she's a new recruit to skiing. The self-described early adopter has jumped right in.

"I've got top-of-the-line skis and boot warmers. I've got fly clothes," Clark said on a recent morning at Smugglers' Notch Resort in Cambridge, modeling a sporty red jacket with cream-colored accents.
